EXTRACTING ETHANOL FROM A FERMENTATION SAMPLE

After fermenting various samples of liquid water with glucose in varying concentrations with yeast, a wide range of alcohol concentrations were produced. These samples were slowly distilled over the course of hours and collected to be analyzed by a refractometer. The data provided by the refractometer was used to calculate the percentage of ethanol in solution based on the refractive index of ethanol.
